THE STATE OF RETAIL

Reading the news headlines would have you believe that the retail apocalypse is upon us. But is it really or is retail just continuing to transform?

Bricks and mortar stores have dwindling profits – but the need to interact and build relationships with customers is bigger than ever.

I’m Oliver Banks and my goal is to help you change and improve your retail operation.

FINDING THE RECIPE FOR RETAIL TRANSFORMATION

One of the common challenges that many retailers face is multiple forces impacting at once.

These contradictions bring complexity to a world striving to be simple:

$

SHOPS MUST REMAIN RELEVANT WHILE ALSO OPERATING WITH CONSTRAINED COST BUDGETS

$

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE IS ESSENTIAL, AS IS SIMPLICITY, CONSISTENCY AND PROFITABILITY

$

FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE IS DECLINING BUT INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY REQUIRES SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT

$

DIGITAL, OMNI-CHANNEL SHOPPING IS HERE, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE INTEGRATED WITH PHYSICAL SPACE

$

RETAIL STORES ARE LOOKING MORE TO ONLINE, WHILE E-COMMERCE NOW STRIVES FOR A PHYSICAL FOOTPRINT

To overcome these challenges and contradictions, you need a

TRANSFORMATION TRIFECTA

01.

A STRONG WILL TO CHANGE

02.

AN ACHIEVABLE APPROACH TO TRANSFORM

03.

THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO DO IT

perhaps, you feel…

  • That you want to transform but not having the skills, the ideas, the headspace or the resources to deliver
  • The desire to work with big name consultancies for security but also need to cut costs to bring in the numbers
  • The need to deliver great change and also deliver consistently at great speed

These challenges hold retailers back from driving successful change and retail improvement. They slow or even stop decision making. Ultimately, given the retail industry at present, today’s confusion and procrastination will lead to the causes of tomorrow’s critical failures.

HOW CAN I HELP?

I’m Oliver Banks

My specialty is helping retailers and consumer facing businesses to develop and evolve to stay match fit.

I love Lean Six Sigma (I’m a Black Belt) and I’m also a PRINCE2 Practitioner. I’m an independent consultant and used to work at Tesco where I was an internal consulting Programme Manager. However, while I originally started my career as an engineer, I’ve always retained my focus on overcoming challenging and complicated problems.

I’m a geek for getting the best answers from unfavourable situations and have the energy, enthusiasm and determination to overcome challenging situations!

I’ve defined, developed and implemented projects, big and small, at large, international blue chip companies including Tesco, Xerox, Samsung and Debenhams. I’ve completed a variety of fast paced projects and programmes over a span of weeks (or even days!) and longer term, more complex initiatives with 2+ year time-frames.

I’m known for my drive, my energy and my logical way of tackling projects and programmes to make change happen.

When required, I partner with other retail consultants and consultancies to provide additional skills and capability or for larger projects and programmes.

I value time with my family and two young children. I’m also driven to complete our home renovations – I’m pretty handy with a spot of DIY too!

MY CORE VALUES AND ATTITUDES

DETERMINATION

I believe in striving to be the best; delivering high standards and achieving great results.

w

FAIRNESS

I believe in doing the right thing and being honest with those involved, as that’s how I like to be treated.

PASSION

I believe in loving what I do; as this brings energy, enthusiasm and excitement.

PRIDE

I believe in what I do; I’m proud of the work I do with clients and love to support and recognise great talent.

EXPERTISE AND EXPERIENCE

I’m experienced at leading, managing and coordinating large, complex change programmes and projects. These initiatives may be targeting improvement to operational processes, people and HR, technology and tools – or a combination of them all.

Clients have loved how I’ve designed and defined new operating models as well as refined existing ones to reduce cost and improve productivity, efficiency and performance. I’ve lead cross-functional teams with multiple workstreams to achieve results in tough, tight and challenging environments.

Inevitably, I must engage and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels – from the boardroom to the shop floor.

Plus, I build capability in others and motivate them to deliver change through coaching and training, both online and face to face.
